I've had a great time getting to know my new, furniture renovating, pillow making, beautiful blogging friend Rae from Chasing Kite Tails. It was easy for us to bond over shabby chic furniture and the art of making fluffy pillows. Obviously!
Rae tells me she's a beginner at all this crafty stuff, but after seeing her work I have no doubt she's destined for success and will be impressing the rest of us with her future projects.
Here's Rae! I am SO excited to be here at Rustic Living with my beautiful friend, Ashley! My name is Rae and I blog over at Chasing Kite Tails. Ashley and I have been chatting back and forth about the crafts we both love doing, and so I will be sharing about a little project I just worked on.
Recently, I have been praying for a desk. Not that my room really has the extra space for a desk...but my mom has been a little annoyed with my current habit of sprawling my computer and paper and arts and crafts ALL over the dinner table. A few weeks after searching stores and Craigslist for potential CHEAP (I'm a little tight on money right now!) desks that I could refinish and restore, my mom told me she saw a desk put out on the curb of our street, a few houses down. I never used to be one for digging in other people's trash...but a good lesson that I have learned from my grandpa is one man's trash is another man's treasure...of course after some sanding, and paint and tender love and care ;)
I hopped in the car and drove down the street with my grandpa before my mom could even finish her sentence. But, we couldn't find the desk. We drove all the way down the street, and I literally prayed the whole time. I really wanted God to bless me with a desk. I needed one, seriously, to be able to continue doing the things that I currently do on Chasing Kite Tails. "God," I prayed, "I really hope that this desk is for me. If not, that's okay. But I really hope that it's for me."
Five minutes into driving and at the absolute end of the road, we gave up. Grandpa said that if the free desk was as cute as my mom said it to be, someone probably snatched it up already. We were too late, and I was genuinely sad. But, I trusted that God would somehow provide what I felt deep in my heart that He said He would: a good, functional desk to work from. We drove back home to tell mom the not-so-good-news. And on our way back up the street, we saw it! The desk! The cute little white desk! It was hidden, behind the garbage cans that our neighbors had put up! But now we could see it, coming up through a different way. Ah, perspective.
A few days later, I ventured into The Salvation Army, fifteen minutes from my house. I found the perfect chair to go with my desk for only $7.99.
Some light sanding and a few coats of fresh, white paint later and I have a beautiful work station. Provided by my God who keeps His word.
I would absolutely love to share more about this project, or other projects that I am working on, with anyone. I also make cards and sew mini personalized pillows.
